As Her Majesty the Queen marks 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth, the bees of Tay Bees and Honey were working hard to bring in the crop of spring honey to the hives situated at the historic Megginch Castle near Errol in the Carse of Gowrie.
This light and mild honey simply could not be fresher. It was harvested at 7pm on Saturday 28th May and brought to market during the afternoon of Sunday 29th May, less than 24 hrs later. Look carefully and you will see golden drops of pollen embedded in the comb, little parcels of high-protein food with vitamins and minerals which sustain the young bees developing in the colony and which you can enjoy with your honey.
This honey has a mild flavour thanks to the diversity of spring flowers available in the locality for the bees. The mix of nectars in this honey are likely to include various tree species such as sycamore, cherry and willow with more from oilseed rape fields nearby and from the comfrey growing on the estate.
Enjoy this honey just as you would any other – straight from the spoon, or spread on toast or porridge.
