This is the biggest cropping honey across the UK but is still not a regular heavy crop for me. Oilseed rape often flowers early these days, mid to late April, and the bees are often not yet strong enough to make full use of it. Some years it is too cold, some too windy, even too dry when the rape comes into flower. Get things right though and it can be a heavy cropper.
Oilseed rape honey granulates to a hard, white set and by gentle warming can be changed into the soft set honey you have now. Both the market sweetness of this honey and its propensity to granulate is due to a higher level of glucose than in most other honeys.
